Local Mexican Restaurants

It’s not specifically infographic, but it does include an interactive map.

Back in January we moved into our new live/work studio in Oakland’s Fruitvale district. It wasn’t a very difficult transition to move from San Francisco’s heavily-Hispanic Mission district into to the also heavily-Hispanic Fruitvale district. What we did find was that we were going to have to re-discover a whole new set of local eateries. As in the Mission, there are Mexican restaurants everywhere and also just like the Mission, you might never walk into some of the best ones unless you had a little secret local knowledge.

Luckily for us the May issue of San Francisco Magazine had an article about local Mexican restaurants, with a suggested must-try specialty for each one. Browse the map below or open up the full-page version, along with text about each restaurant.

Sounds good, when are we going? I miss So Cal Mexican food, taquitos and chimichangas… it’s not that they’re good plates, but it’s sentimental. Maybe we can find some in Fruitvale.
